Extreme English!

Extreme

Nowadays is very common to talk extreme things. We hear about extreme fittness, extreme sports, extreme weather...Well today's lesson is about extreme english..What I mean by extreme English? Well often...in informa conversation...people use a lot of exagereted expressions, to express their feelings...and that's what we are going to learn here. You should try your best   not to uses in formal situations , cause is really not  meant for that, but you will hear a lot of people using it in regular conversations So...Let's have a look  So...The examples...that I have on the board...show you verbs wich can be exagerated.., adjectives tha can be exagereted, , and adverbs OK?  OK? Let's look at some examples...So for example, you are hungry...Right?...            I'm really hungry, people tend to say: ...Oh my god I'm starving...and doesn't mean actually starving?..No...of course not.. Not the person  isn't saying that..the person is porbably actually starving doesn't have to strenght  to say they're starving but..so we say I'm starving  Let's get something to eat...or It's really cold..and you say: I'm freezing..ok?  This is the extreme xxxx...or ...my shoes are killing me. Of course you xxxxIt's just a way of speaking ..xxxxxadjectives...Let's   how we can use extreme  xxxxxOh My God there is a gigantic spider on my bed...It's probably not a gigantic spider but is a large spider xxxxx for your concern ...So...That's where the exageration takes place...or I have a million e mails to answer...probably not a million but We mean a lot of e mails...Ah..Adverbs..I'm totally exhausted today...It would have been enough to say that you're exausted because after that, It's kind of repetitive or redundant. But sometimes people add that just to exaggerate it. Or: She's absolutely gorgeous.Or: He's absolutely gorgeous Right? So..that's how we can have the extreme part of it, the exaggeration. We offen apply these  also to certain area such as we are going talking about numbers or amounts,or time, or space. For examplue, the word hundreds of people in line outside the store. Now, It's extreme or exaggerated only if te word actually hundred just meant a lot, but you say hundreds, because hundreds represents a lot., or I have thousends of things to do before I leave next week, OK? Again you probably don't        have thousends of things to do but you've got a lot of things to do. Amounts...xxxxtons of homework xxxOr there were a piles of paper everywhere OK? Exaggeration again...Sometimes when we exaggerate time ..We can exaggerate xxx intwo directions  We can make it shorter than It actually is, or we can make ti longer than actually is. For example...Can I talk to you for a minute..I know you are busy IT'll just take five seconds..Now..Is it  an exaggeration   xx? Cuase It's gonna take more than five seconds But you're exaggerating in another way xxxxxxx    Or Oh my God I met my friend I haven't seen her in years...oK? And maybe is truth , but It could be an exaggeration , or you can say... in ages...is another expression where you exaggerate the amaunt of time.right  Or.. Oh my god..I can't leave you..This is such   a tiny closet  I need a big closet ...all right?  xxxno tiny but in your view ...from your perspectiv It's tiny..or.. This a huge bedroom  Ok? Again ...These are relative terms but we're also exaggerating it to express our emotions as well as our objectibe reality  Ok? Agai The objective reality..was not a gigantic spider , just a large one...and not a tiny closet just as small one, Ok? But by using this kind of extreme English...You sound a little more like a native speaker when you are speaking in informal situations Ok? If you like to do a little quizz on this, to master it, please go to our web site: XXX Thanks very much for watching , and good luck with your English...By for now..

Business English - Talking about your Work

EngVid

We are going to star by talking about one of the main questions that you ask in the bussiness context , and that is... where do you work...OK? There are a number of different ways wich you can answer this question and the all involve the word ..work of course..so for example...you start by saying...I work but...after that...you have a number of different prepositions..that you use() to need to use  depending  on what you want to say...so we are going to review some of these and then..I hope you have a better understanding of what to use and how to answer this basic question. OK?= So...Let's get started ! So..the first one is: I work in..can be used for a place..for example: I work in a school..., I work in an office...,  work in a factory...,right?...and many others examples like that..You can also...use IN to describe the city: I work in Toronto, I work in Paris, I work in Montreal, OK? ...So you can use it for cities...You can also use it for the country...I work in Australia...I work in Japan..., I work  in India, OK?  Another way you can use "I work in"...is with the departament... : I work in the marketing departement, I work in the accounting departement , OK?  You can use it to describe the field that you're in...for example: I work in computers, I work in education, Right? So...You use it to describe  the field that you are in..., the professional field...I work in accounting, for example, or you can use it similarly to describe the industry:  I work in the hospitality industry, I work in the turism industry, OK? So...Yes..The preposition in covers a lot of different possibilities...OK? Let's move...on...from there to the next one...which is on  So...Let's look at how you can use that...: I work on a farm, I work on a oil (rick)   , I work on a construction site, These are some specific examples ...You can see...that There are a little more specific is used...not as often..OK? It's most rarerly so...IN is more common. You can also use it to talk about the area or field that you that you are working on...so...for example : I work on software development..., I work on educational policy, OK? That's another way you can use ON . Now AT, describes the place....and..you maybe wandering.Because I mention place so for three different places  But..here is a little more specific...for example: I work at home, I work at downtown branch right?..I work at this location  so You are usually talking about a molre specific place or brach , or location all right?...Now we come to another one...;with..so..with..is used to talk about..who you work with..right?..I work with..John, I work with the french clients, I work with several wonderful collegues, right? You are talking about...the people...that you're working with...and last to for that perhaps most impotant..because this is what people make ask you first right? They may ask you : Who do you work for?...so.. in answer to that question  You could say: I work for diplomat lingo school, I work for microsoft, I work for IBM and so one.  or you could say I work for my uncle. It could be a person, as well but usually we are gonna give the name of the company, and in case of you are a self employee or an enterpreneur  you can also say I work for myself, OK? So...I know there is a lot of diffrent possibilities here, I know the prepositions can be quite challenging to master so the only way to really learn them is to listen to a lot of examples, to write out a lot of examples, of your own using these prepositions  and thru repetition eventuaslly you will get them . If you have any more questions or if you like actually do a free quizz on this lesson,  You can do that on our web site:...OK? Thanks very much and will see you again..By for now.
